My marketing lecturer was quite nice, not too bad I think. It's not easy making a theoretical module interesting and engaging. So the fact that I didn't yawn during his lesson was good enough for me.
I had my Corporate Finance lectures on Saturday and Sunday. 10am to 5pm. I've got to talk about this. My lecturer is Dr Pascal Frantz. He is french, has thick french accent, curly hair, quite a lean body accompanied with a pot belly. Haha..
I think he is damn zai (PRO) lor. He knows everything we are talking about and he himself is talking about. I don't know. I guess every Dr/Professor should know everything they are lecturing on anyway. But the fact that the module is CORPORATE FINANCE really make me want to take my hats off to him sia. But anyway, I got no hats la. HAha (okay, that's not the point)
Seriously, I'm sure this UOL revision helped me a lot. Things I did not understand or have no single clue about when my SIM lecturer taught me for the past say, 5 to 6 months, I could grasp the essense of the concept in 1 day! Finally! All thanks to the almighty Dr Frantz! I see the light! and hope to continue seeing the light and not lose it!!
Now, his explanations and ideas are still pretty clear to me. This is one of the few times I look back at my notes during break time and actually realize/understand what I jotted down. Arggh, god, or buddha, bless me that I can still grasp the concept the next time I study. (which will most likely be tomorrow, btw) Or please, bless me so I can remember the concept forever! All the essense, assumptions, implications/benefits/intuitions, empirical evidences, and even the names of the founders of the concepts!
Like:
- MM - Modigliani-Miller & Black Scholes
- MM - Modigliani-Miller Corporate Tax/Personal Tax/Bankruptcy
- Agency costs of outside Debt/Equity - Jensen and Meckling
- The Myers - Debt overhang problem
- Ross - Asymmetric Information/Signalling argument for debt
- Myers and Majluf - Pecking order theory of finance
- Ross - Asymmetric Information and dividends
- and many others..
Cannot! The more I remember Dr Frantz's motivation and perserverance in explaining certain concepts, the more I don't want to give up on my Finance! In poly, I could do it (though not very good results lah), so why now cannot? TPZ TPZ TPZ TPZ! GAMBATTE!!
I have 4 days free (except Thursday, where I only have 4pm onwards, and Mondays and Wednesdays - Yoga in the evening) until my next UOL Revision which is on a Friday for marketing. [ Did not really talk about marketing revision cus i find Finance Revision got more things to talk about. Like gaining enlightenment (LOL) and the amicable lecturer, but that does not mean my marketing lecture got no benefits lah. Of course it has benefits; advising us on how to link from topics to topics; assisted us to focus on minor issues etc.. ]
I pledge to study on each of the 4 days for at least 5 hours on a average basis. My focus this week will be on Corporate Finance (need I say more) and Sociology!
Jiayou Chen Bao Zhu!!
